Herrendorf Family Foundation

Human Biography has proudly worked alongside the Herrendorf Family Foundation in their efforts to support students that face challenges in their pursuit of higher education. We’re travelled to places like Chicago and Los Angeles to help tell the inspiring stories of those whose lives have been impacted by HFF as well as their partners at the Oprah Winfrey Leaders Scholarship (OWLS) program.

While documenting the HFF Global Leadership Conference in Chicago, Human Biography Co-Founder Sharad Kharé was incredibly inspired by the stories he and his team were hearing from the students that were in attendance. Each of them had overcome great obstacles in their personal lives to be there, and many shared instances of their struggles with their mental health when asked to fill in the blank in the sentence “I __ Because…” in regards to their mental wellness.

The Herrendorf Family Foundation explains:

“HFF CEO Kasondra Cohen-Herrendorf created the ‘I __ BECAUSE’ concept as a catalyst to share personal or community-based actions that support our individual mental health. Asking youth and change-makers since 2018 to fill in the blank ‘_’ with what they do to cope or thrive, the expression is a celebration of resilience and connection.”

It was these conversations that led Sharad to partner Human Biography with HFF to present four scholars with $500 each to invest in their mental health! The aim for this bursary is to aid the recipients to continue to do the things that bring them joy and support them on their journey to accomplish their goals in their community and beyond. Congratulations to the winners of this bursary!
