The Space Between short film
We shot this short film based on a script written by the team at BWSS. The goal was to have a video campaign ready to play out during the 2026 FIFA World Cup that was taking place in our hometown of Vancouver.
We managed to shoot and edit this short film within a very tight timeframe and had multiple versions created for distribution across social media and news outlets.
Between Instagram and Facebook, the video has been viewed over 1.1 million times across 700K+ accounts as of July 2026.
From BWSS:
Major sporting events, including the FIFA World Cup (soccer), can be times of increased fear and isolation for women experiencing intimate partner violence. While football does not cause abuse, existing patterns of coercive control and violence can intensify during periods of heightened emotional intensity, alcohol consumption, gambling stress, and increased social activity. Coercive control often happens behind closed doors. It can include monitoring, intimidation, isolation, fear, walking on eggshells, and changing your behaviour to avoid conflict or escalation. Too often, these warning signs are overlooked, minimized, or downplayed. "The Space Between" explores the realities of coercive control and asks us to recognize abuse before it escalates.
